My name is Sakena (suh· key ·â€‹nuh) and I am an Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, Supervised by Jamie Telfeyan, Ph.D., LPC-S, NCC Licensed # 66708. Here at Cypress Counseling and Behavioral Center where I help 20- and 30-something-year-old adults and couples navigate life and relationships. Together we will work through what may be feeling a bit like a “quarter-life crisis”. Whether it’s guilt,  worry about what’s next, or the fear of how a shift can change your life, something has held you back. Our shared time will be the first tool to help you close the gap between where you are now and where you want to be.

My Story:

My desire to become a therapist started a little before graduating from high school. Life initially pivoted me into the business field until the passing of a family member had me seated on the other side of the couch facing a mental health counselor. The work that I did in that room and the processing of the decisions I had made up to that point in my life propelled me back into the mental health space. So many of the decisions we make in our lives aren’t entirely our own and once we can see that and live the pain of that we get a deep feeling that we need to do something different. I now get the opportunity to help other people navigate that change as well. When I’m away from the office you can find me connecting with my island roots by enjoying water and sunshine with my hubby or snuggling under a weighted blanket with a book.

My Training & Approach:

As a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, my approach to therapy begins by crafting our sessions to be a safe space for you to show up authentically and completely as yourself. I am a strong believer that the most important relationship is the one we have with ourselves so we will spend some time incorporating various approaches into our plan and work together. I provide individual, couples, and group therapy services to teens, young adults, and adults.  I work with those that are dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, life transitions, and trauma as well as individuals in non -traditional relationships. Additionally, I work with individuals looking for a safe space to navigate alternative, non-traditional relationships with their partner(s), whether that be open, poly, or consensual non-monogamy.
