Laura Lee
Licensed Professional Counselor
Welcome to Cypress Counseling & Behavioral Center, recognized as the Best Therapy Services in Cy-Fair. My name is Laura Lee, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 10 years of experience successfully assisting children, teens, adults, parents and couples with a variety of challenges. I know how difficult this first step can be, and I want to take a moment to celebrate your bravery and resiliency. Finding the right provider is so important and I appreciate that you have taken the time to learn more about me and how I can support you through your wellness journey. Whether you are dealing with an unexpected life change, current/past trauma, relationship issues, mental health or behavioral concerns or any other variety of life’s difficulties, I am here to assist you in navigating and addressing them in a safe therapeutic environment. My goal is to help you become your best self and provide lifelong tools that you can continue to utilize long after therapy has ended. I believe that everyone has inner strengths and resources that make them experts in their own lives and through therapy we can help discover and strengthen them. I am experienced and well versed in the process of facilitating change, growth and healing.
My Story:
When I was growing up, I experienced a variety of traumatic events, but I was not provided with the opportunity to seek treatment and healing as this wasn’t available culturally. I dealt with it the best I could, but I decided that generational trauma would end with me. I was the first person in my family to graduate from college and the more I learned, the more I was able to heal and educate others. I initially worked with Child Protective Services, and I quickly realized that I wanted to be a counselor and help these children and families on their healing journey, in a way that I was never provided. During this time, I married and had 4 children. I earned my master’s degree despite life’s obstacles, and I also began my own healing journey. Since that time, I endured a painful divorce and was a single mother. My children and I needed support during this time, and they all went through counseling themselves at different points in their lives, so I have been on both sides of the therapeutic process as a client/parent. I know firsthand the powerful and positive impact therapy can have in our lives and I wanted to provide that opportunity for others. I later remarried and now have 5 precious children within our blended family. It has been a beautiful and bittersweet journey because with a family this big, there is never a dull moment, and we have navigated a variety of challenges that have strengthened us. I worked for a local community mental health agency for nearly 9 years, treating a variety of severe co-occurring mental health and behavioral disorders. Becoming a therapist has been the best decision I have ever made, and it is so fulfilling seeing clients heal and thrive.
My Approach:

My counseling approach is primarily person centered with an eclectic twist which requires a strong therapeutic relationship between the client and the counselor consisting of strong rapport, unconditional positive regard, genuineness, and empathy. I meet the client where they are in the process because not one person is the same and I believe each client is an expert in their own lives. My approach must vary and be flexible to meet each person’s needs. Our relationship is a collaborative one, requiring the full participation of both client(s) and counselor. In sessions, I strive to make the client(s) feel safe, comfortable and understood. I work with the client/couple/family to determine a therapeutic modality that fits best with their presenting concern(s). I have extensive experience with a variety of disorders including PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective, Mood Disturbances, ADHD, Autism Spectrum, IDD, Behavioral Disorders and Personality Disorders. I am a forever student and constantly engage in training and educational opportunities so that I am always able to deliver the best possible care to my clients.
Treatment Modalities:
My areas of expertise and training include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing/EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy/CBT, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy/TR-CBT, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy/DBT, Strengths Based Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, amongst others. These modalities fall under the umbrella of Evidence-Based Practices, which means these modalities have strong scientific evidence to back their efficiency. I am also able to draw from other treatment modalities as needed to address other concerns/needs that may arise.
